Designed by Pewabic Marketing Manager Frances Ma, this tile is a tribute to her father, Hin-Long Ma, who would bring home the tasty treats to share with his family. The centerpiece of the Mooncake tile is the Wufu symbol, or the “five blessings,” which represents well-wishes for health, wealth, long life, love of virtue, and a peaceful death. I hope people connect with this design, regardless of their cultural background. Through trial, error, and sheer persistence, Mary Chase Perry Stratton developed her first successful Iridescent glaze in 1906. Establishing the formula and stabilizing the firing process took another three years. Today our Iridescent pieces are fired somewhat similarly, though with safer materials.
